Sedum ‘Bertram Anderson.’ (Richie Steffen)
This groundcover thrives in sunny, dry areas with poor soil. It’s also a good choice for containers.
What: Sedum ‘Bertram Anderson,’ commonly known as stonecrop, is an excellent groundcover plant, particularly for hot, dry sites with poor soil. This variety forms a flat, dense mound of rich purple leaves. Clusters of dusky-pink flowers appear in late summer and last into the fall. ‘Bertram Anderson’ is well suited for the rock garden or edging in a dry border, and is also a good choice for containers. It makes a good companion plant with Eryngium amethystinum ‘Sapphire Blue.’
Where: This sedum is best grown in well-drained or sandy soil. The best flowering is in full sun, but it will tolerate light shade and still look good.
Size: Grows to 6 inches tall by 1 foot wide in 10 years.
Care: Once established, Sedum ‘Bertram Anderson’ is drought tolerant. Cut to the ground in fall.
